Drug uses
Zestoretic is an oral drug, containing two antihypertensive agents, Lisinopril and Hydrochlorothiazide. Due to the combination of the two active ingredients, Zestoretic has a dual mechanism of action.
- Lisinopril lowers high arterial pressure by widening blood vessels.
- Hydrochlorothiazide helps control high blood pressure through diuresis simulation.
Zestoretic is approved for the second-line hypertension treatment in patients, who fail controlling blood pressure with drugs for hypertension monotherapy.
By promoting vasodilation and diuresis, Zestoretic tablets provide a quick, powerful and long-lasting antihypertensive effect.
Taking note of this fact, the patients require regular blood pressure monitoring in early days of Zestoretic treatment. The daily dose of this antihypertensive drug should be reduced, if Zestoretic causes hypotension.
Zestoretic is recommended for once-daily hypertension therapy. The daily Zestoretic dose is one tablet of Zestoretic 10 or Zestoretic 20. Adjustment of antihypertensive therapy is recommended not earlier than 14 days after the starting dose of Zestoretic.
Missed dose
One missed Zestoretic dose does not affect the effectiveness of the antihypertensive therapy. If you missed one dose of Zestoretic, skip it and continue with your normal schedule of this drug use. You should not take more than one Zestoretic 20 pill per day, even if you’ve missed two or more Zestoretic doses in a row.
More information
You should stop using other diuretics and vasodilators before using Zestoretic pills. Zestoretic should be taken with caution by people with moderate or progressive liver disease.
Storage
Zestoretic tablets should be stored in a tightly sealed bottle or the original blister packing, at temperature below 30°C. If a blister with Zestoretic pills was removed from the primary packaging, it should be protected from strong light.

Warnings
Using Zestoretic during pregnancy creates a serious threat to the normal fetus development. Zestoretic side effects
Zestoretic causes undesirable effects very rarely. Clinical studies have demonstrated that approximately 5-7% of patients, taking Zestoretic tablets, have mild headaches or dizziness. Less than 4% of patients may experience fatigue, cough, orthostatic effects, hypotension, when going through treatment with Zestoretic. Zestoretic may rarely cause syncope or muscle cramps.
